About me

It started as a joke.

An avid fantasy reader looking at her bookcase and thinking she could write one herself. She bought a notebook and a fancy pen, and scribbled on the blank pages until they were blank no more—they were full of people, ideas, places, and magic, lots of magic, because what fun would it be otherwise?

A few notebooks later, she got to her computer, typing furiously while hiding from the real world, taking shelter in those magical places, loving those imaginary people, getting lost in the tales she told to herself.

It got her in and out of a world crisis, more or less intact.

She was not a stranger to the process of writing—she had been writing professionally for a decade, though her words only described scientific ideas and real-world problems, and she longed for more.

Fiction gave her more.

Fantasy gave her life.

Suddenly, the joke became a calling, a realisation. She looked at a mirror and said,

“I'm a writer. I write fantasy, and fantasy writes me.”

Having no formal training in fiction, she devoured books and essays about the subject and almost got lost in the black hole that is the internet—anything to improve her skills. She found friendship in writing groups, support from fellow striving authors, and dove head first into the world of writing fantasy.

I am Isa, an unpublished novelist and a short storyteller. I deal with witches and poets, haunted flats and lost letters never read. I yield magic from my fingertips and make my world as colourful as I make it dark, so be aware—this is not a place for the weak of heart.

If you do like what I write, all I have to say is thank you. If you don´t, well, we can still be friends, and I hope you won't hold my stories against me.

They have a life of their own, you see.

Isa Ottoni (she/her) writes fiction with a spark of magic and fantasy with a spark of reality. When Isa is not writing, she is teaching and putting her PhD in food consumption sciences to good use, even though she would much rather be writing or reading about — you guessed, magic. She believes fantasy is what makes life fun, and that is a hill she is ready to die on. Isa was born and raised in Brazil but moved to Portugal seeking a new adventure. She lives with her incredibly supportive husband and their dog, a mischievous little mutt who thinks himself the king of everything that light touches. Isa doesn’t have the heart to contradict him. Say hi to her on Instagram at @isa.ottoni.writes.
